Helios Opens SPC Jazz Festival

Helios Jazz Orchestra with singers Dale Williams and Sasha Tuck


The Helios Jazz Orchestra was formed in September 2008 as a resident ensemble at St. Petersburg College. The modern big band is directed by SPC faculty member David Manson and performs a wide range of styles including Latin, swing, bebop and standards. The new group has been featured at the WMNF Jazz Jam with singer Kevin Mahogany, the Sarasota Jazz Club’s Big Band Bash, at the Salvador Dali Museum and other events.
Sasha Tuck is a versatile vocalist, composer, arranger, and educator who teaches in the new MIRA program at St. Petersburg College. She has a Masters Degree in Jazz Studies from the University of North Texas, where she sang in the acclaimed Jazz Singers. She has performed at over 100 venues and festivals and many more clubs, restaurants, hotels, and private parties.
Dale Williams is a seasoned professional who has worked both as a solo performer and in groups. Early in his career, he appeared as lead singer for Free Enterprise in the Detroit Metro area. Over the years, Dale has appeared on TV, in voice-overs for radio and has opened for Tom Jones, Willie Tyler & Lester, Barbara Eden, Rich Little and many more.
